The site is a fully fledged content management system that allows the manager to edit content adding reports and images to galleries, keeping it up to date and helping both members and potential members keep up to date what is going on.

Following a lot of work on updating the product range packaging, back at the end of October details emerged of plans for an update to the current Enterprise Tackle website, a traditional html based website that had served them well for several years. The team at Enterprise sought guidance on a way forward and to make their web presence much more effective and up to the job of supporting their business and their very large customer base across the UK and the world.

The goal was for the site to be one that could be managed by the team themselves, with additional support as and when required, and be much more dynamic in the way it presented their content to the visitors.

The subject of eCommerce was also discussed so extend the opportunity for anglers to be able to purchase products that they might be unable to get access to from their local tackle shops. They had the opportunity to send in orders with cheques for payment, but the time to delivery was very inefficient and a better solution was to be considered.

Given these options and a preference for a particular system, a website developed by myself and Hooklinks was commissioned.

Work started in November to develop the site and over the winter months the site and its content were loaded and features developed, galleries, competitions and a miriad of minor functional features were added and tested, finally becoming the site the Enterprise team were happy with and finally launched in early May 2012.

Retaining #1 Search ranking

The launch had a significant demand that had to be met, having been established as a brand leader with a #1 ranking for a very large keyword search listing across all the leading search engines, maintaining this would be critical. The task was not an easy one as the whole url beyond the enterprisetackle.co.uk/ had changed completely and it was vital that old listings pointed to the new pages. A redirection plan was created and implemented with all existing search listings redirecting fully to the new url’s, within 24 hours the search results were showing updated links and cached details. A  successful outcome and very rewarding for me and for the Team as they can now continue to develop the site in comfort of knowing they have retained that #1 ranking!

Angling Trust Eastern Region Fishery Forum website

This was a rather complex development as it required two distinct systems to manage the mix of organisations who would be working to manage the content. The site needed a ‘secure’ system for live, online discussion and review of sensitive policy documents, with added secure download facilities, along side a second level of independent content management. It needed to be clean and to a degree ‘authorative’ in its design as it has a clearly defined purpose to inform and consult on Angling and Fisheries matters, the Forum management team feel this has been achieved.

The high level of  secure management was achieved by building in a strict access control system and a second directory system that allows the discussion/management group to have online discussions and to pass documents between each other securely. It also allows each individual section to be managed by each individual editor, with the security in knowing only the approved editor can add or edit content on their section. Here they have a News, Static pages and Download Directory where they can upload and input new content and return to edit and update their content as any detail changes.

The site system has been developed to be managed, upgraded and extended very easily to include a wide variety of features, directories for events, clubs, fisheries all with an integrated Google map with Streetview, galleries for recording events, all as yet no fully needed and more if ever the need arise. The premise being that it is likely that as the group move forward they will find a need for these and more.

The site has now been handed over to the Forum team and is currently being loaded with data and users trained to use the content management system that is used to run this site.

Pike Online - CMS based pike fishing information site

PikeOnline is personal project that I originally set up back in 2001. It was the second web design project I undertook to develop the skills I use today in web design and development. Back then and up until 2011 it was a standard html based site, one that had been neglected and not updated for quite a long time. Despite this it had been continually busy and was a clear indicator that there was a need for it and a community that used it.

It had throughout its life resided in a sub folder and was listed simply as www.hooklinks.co.uk/pike and had few real search listings due to its layout, it was ‘frame’ based and difficult for search engines to list effectively. So given the sites popularity I took the decision in 2010 to start the process of rebuilding it using Joomla, a CMS that I frequently now use for customers needing the self managing capabilities and for those where there will be a fair amount of regular updates and edits for me to carry out for my customers.

I decide back in 2010 that the site should have its own identity via its own domain name. It has always been known as ‘pikeonline’ so the domain ‘pikeonline.co.uk’ was secured. This domain is also a key to its future as it has two key words that help it immediately with any searches for ‘pike’ related websites. Matching the sections, page names/titles/keywords and content to typical search queries has seen the site climb to a #1 ranking for many of the key searches pike anglers are making on most of the key search engines.

Pikeonline is a dedicated pike fishing information platform, providing access to information about fish care and welfare, how to create rigs and tackle, how to fish for pike and where to fish for them. It utilises some powerful components to build sections of the site and to make delivery of the content as simple as possible. The key feature that makes the site stand out from probably all of its competition is the quality and strength of the illustrations that show how to set up and fish many of the popular pike fishing rigs and other such parts of a pike anglers methods.

Components included delivering video from a variety of sources, directories for where to fish, boat hire and slipways and events, and offers information for anglers across the UK in one accessible place.

A key standout feature is being developed and that is to allow visitors looking at the rigs to be able to purchase from the page via a pop up shopping cart, any items of tackle that are recommended with relaitve ease. Partnering with a suitable tackle supplier is planned, but currently the system utilises an Amazon store to explore the potential.

Enterprise Tackle -packaging artwork promotional ads

Enterprise Tackle commissioned Hooklinks to provide some new artwork for updates to some of their existing products. They were recommended to Hooklinks by a reference from an existing customer and have continued to progress the  updating of their product packaging by commissioning new full colour artwork for existing and new products that they are bringing to market.

In addition the artwork has been re-purposed for use in adverts that are regularly run in the mainstream  angling media.

Parallel business for Garth Bernard, Master Practitioner of NLP, Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy, within his Phoenix Consultancy where he is able to focus on specific needs of clients who have a variety of problems that can be helped and often solved using Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

He requested a bright and friendly, modern web presence that got straight to the point of what he was offering and this was achieved in a CMS package that allows for quick and easy edits and updates to be made. Tightlines Portugal web design, promotional material, site management - good SEO

John Bate commissioed a small website back in 2005 for his fledgling angling holiday, guiding business in the Algarve region of Portugal.  This served for a couple of seasons to get him started, but it soon became clear that the business needed a bigger and more efficient website to manage the information that was coming from trips with customers, testimonial, and ever developing new venues and hotels.

In to 2009 Hooklinks undertook a complete rebuild and loaded all the existing data into a new Content Management System that had the scope to develop to match the aspirations of the business, allow regular editing and updates with a blog of news as it was happening.

In late 2009 a new section was added that promoted property for local clients and businesses, this utilised much of the hidden features of the holiday site, adding the benefits of a Google map showing the locations of the properties and allowing a closer look at the area by any prospective home buyer.

The Phoenix Consultancy came to Hooklinks from a personal reference from another customer and sought to have a new business start up get the right start with a modern website that would help provide the shop window for the services Phoenix would be providing.. The commission was for a fully content managed website, logo design (main logo and several branding logo’s for parts of the business), stationery, business cards and promotional leaflets and other promotional material.

Kings Lynn AA website

Kings Lynn AA - web design and map illustration

New website for Kings Lynn Angling Association to help promoter the club, its fishing venues and drive membership. Based on a database driven content management system, it is managed by a team of editors with a particular reference to a regular weekly news posting on its members activities, fisheries and events. Makes full use of Google maps for providing detail about fishery locations and any relative information about sections on the rivers and Fen fisheries.

The Norfolk Anglers Conservation Association website is one set up to assist the Association in its work on fisheries and angling representation in Norfolk, it developed on the back of the success of the original Wensum Action Group following the work to the local angling community to oppose abstraction plans for the river Wensum at Costessey.

When the WAG was disbanded the NACA was formed to continue its work. As a founder member this has always been an issue close to my heart and I sponsored the redesign of the website back in 2007 following the earlier site, after giving good service for several years being in need of an update. The site is a database driven content management system which allows much easier administration by a group of editors, rather thant a single webmaster. It utilises many added components to run the site including an ecommerce shopping cart for online memberships.
