Innovate Baits resealable bait bag design

Product packaging has been a very important part of what I have provided long term for several customers under the Hooklinks banner. Moving my illustration work into a more usable area that could enhance product information had always been a motivator for setting up the business. However it was potential customers who also saw the same opportunity back in 2000, to move their product POS packaging material onto a new level that made this a reality.

Margin Tackle, who wanted a new look for their ‘Total Carp’ and ‘Total Pike’ brands and then a new ‘Carp Craze’ brand, approached me soon after start up. At around the same time a similar request for a sample was made by Korda Developments to explore the possibility of using full colour artwork in their packs. This was successful and eventually led to a series of updates to existing product packaging to include colour illustrations on the back of the product insert cards. Later this developed into full upgrading of all existing products and design for all the new ranges of products each season as the Korda brand has grown.

In both cases the complete insert card artwork was prepared in full, ready for print, from illustration to full double sided layouts and where appropriate setting up cutter guides on A3, A2 layouts.

The processes have included both regular paper/card 4 colour printing and more recently transparent film bags, a more specialised process used for the likes of baits and pva. This has been work completed for Korda Solidz PVA in several sizes and Innovate Baits 1kg and 500gr bait bags, both using complex 4 colour printing on film that included soft edge fades into transparent see through panels.

This packaging artwork, usually done to a large scale than required for the product insert cards, is easily re-purposed for other promotional uses such as website, adverts and similar. This is currently a use Enterprise Tackle put their new artwork to, creating advertising material for use in mainstream angling publications. This keeps them firmly in view and keeps the product shipping to the retailers as customers request new products as they are brought to market.

If you have a product that is in need of updating and could benefit from a makeover and include detailed illustration, then give this idea some thought. Likewise if you have a new angling/tackleĀ  product you are looking to bring to market, could it benefit from full colour illustrated material to make it more visually appealing to your potential customers?

If you would like to give it a try, get in touch with me and we can work up some samples, it may make a difference, having quality artwork on your packaging, providing useful information and something that many anglers will retain for reference!
