Horsey Mere Angling Access 2006-7

Information on booking and fishing Horsey Mere

Permits will be issued for individual days only, permits will not be issued to any one angler or boat for consecutive days, eg: Mon. Tues, Wed etc. A minimum 2 day break will be automatically applied for multiple date bookings by any one angler or boat

Applications are invited to state their preferred date on which to fish but will accept the date issued on their permit. Every effort will be made to issue permits as near to the date requested. Permits will be issued in order of completed application forms received.

PERMIT FEE - £15 (no VAT), by cheque only, made payable to ‘Horsey Estate Trust’.

Application forms, together with the appropriate fee and a stamped addressed envelope, should be sent to: Buxton Property Management (Fishing), Speedwell House, Lingwood, Norwich, NR13 4ET. Permits will be issued by post only.

Conditions of Permit


1... Permits are issued to fish on Horsey Mere but the Horsey Estate Trust will cancel permits should it be found that the attached conditions are being violated and/or the presence of anglers on the Mere is found to affect the wintering wildfowl.
2... Only 1 boat will be allowed on the Mere at any one time (these are not provided).
3... Each boat will be limited to a maximum of 4 rods.
4... Boats will access the Mere from Meadow Dyke and within the zone shown on the attached plan. The boundary of the fishing zone will be marked by mooring buoys, at either bank and boats must not go beyond this line. Boats are to keep to 30 metres from the bank as shown shaded on the plan.
5... Boats will enter the Mere from Meadow Dyke only.
6... Outboard/inboard petrol motors must not be used on the Mere, boats must be rowed, or powered by electric motor.
7... Boats must have their name or authorised registration number painted on their hull or permanently affixed. Boats names to be those duly registered with the Broads Authority.
8... Permit holders will co-operate fully with the Horsey Estate.
9... The use of live bait, gaffs, ground bait, keep nets/sacks/tanks is prohibited.
10... Fish to be ‘landed’ with the use of a landing net and returned to the water immediately afterwards. Allowance will be tolerated for weighing and measuring purposes.
11... All litter (including cigarette ends) to be taken away and not deposited on the Mere or surrounding area. Anglers to make every effort to retrieve any lost tackle.
12... The use of radios or bait boats of any description or any form is prohibited.
13... Only small open boats will be permitted.
14... Boats will not enter the Mere before 08:00 hours on the date of the issued permit and will leave the Mere before 16:00 hours the same day.
15... Each permit will be for one day’s fishing only.
16... Permit holders will report any person seen violating these conditions.
17... Boats will be allowed on the Mere from 1 November 2006 to 28 February 2007.
18... The presence of considerable weed growth on the Mere requires that minimum line breaking strain of 15lbs together with a wire trace on 20lbs minimum breaking strain must be used.
19... The use of ‘pop-up’ style baits in any form is prohibited.
20... In the interests of the welfare of the fish, anglers must have a soft material layer, e.g. a piece of carpeting covering the inside floor boards where fish are placed during handling, preferably a purpose made unhooking mat should be available in the boat for unhooking.
